What is the Free Store?
The Free Store is a centralized location that allows you to drop off stuff you don’t want anymore and pick-up things you do want for FREE. Essentially, this is a “store” where everything is free.
What is our goal / vision?
Our goal is to create a campus where waste is a thing of the past. By creating a space where anyone can drop off and pick up stuff, we hope to reduce consumption by offering free items to the campus. We also want to make sure that items have a second chance to be used before they go to the landfill or off for recycling.
What kind of stuff are we talking about?
Stuff, things we no longer use, dust-collectors, knick-knacks, etc. It doesn’t matter what you call them, we all have things we do not use but could be used by someone else. Some common items are clothing, office supplies, kitchen ware, electronics, textbooks, etc.
When and where does it happen?
The Free Store is located at 647 King Edward. It usually starts around 10am and finishes around 3pm. Check out our calendar for details and specific dates.
What about all the stuff that doesn’t get taken?
Everything that is not taken is donated to Ottawa-based charities. There are many people in need of these items on and off campus.
How can I get involved?
That’s easy. Just come out to one of the Free Stores and take whatever you would like. Everything is free. And if you want to drop something off, you can do that too. You can take as much as you want and leave as much as you please.
When the Free Store isn’t open you can drop off donations in our "donations box" located just beside the front door of the house at 647 King Edward.
Who do I contact for more information?
If you have questions about the program or you want to donate special items, please contact Brigitte Morin our Waste Diversion Coordinator for more details.
